For many of us, our first experience with astroimaging comes when we hold up a point-and-shoot camera to the eyepiece of a telescope and take a picture. This simple process, known as digiscoping, opens the door to the world of astroimaging. After digiscoping, imagers commonly progress to a DSLR camera using a T-adapter. With this technique, they can take stunning photos of celestial objects and hone their skills. But eventually, imagers become limited by the constraints of DSLR cameras. After all, these cameras are mainly built for terrestrial photography, and lighting conditions very different from what we can see through a telescope. CCD cameras take astroimaging to the next level, with super-sensitive CCD chips and cooling systems that reduce the temperature inside the camera by several degrees. These specialized cameras reduce noise, yielding greater signal and more detail in every shot. But this advanced technology can be difficult to use and range into the thousands of dollars. Celestron offers two excellent CCD cameras at an extremely affordable price, perfect for those looking to make the transition from DSLR to CCD camera. Nightscape 10100: A Versatile CCD Camera The Nightscape 10100 debuted in 2011, and gained favor among imagers for its flexibility. The Nightscape 10100 works in 3 different resolutions in color. This provides great versatility for most imaging configurations. Nightscape 8300: Advanced Technology at an Affordable Price The Kodak KAF 8300 CCD sensor is a favorite among astroimagers due to its inherent low noise, high sensitivity, and relatively small pixel size. However, until now, this acclaimed Kodak chip was only available on high-end CCD cameras with a price tag to match. The Nightscape 8300 sets a new standard for intermediate level imaging. The Nightscape 8300 has 8. Additionally, both Nightscape cameras come with a 2-year warranty from Celestron. My First MONO Camera for Astrophotography (Unboxing)
I think starizona or some other company has a calculator where you can calculate the needed exposure to overcome read noise and enter the sky noise dominated realm. That is only when they are responsible deep. These CCDs require colored filters red, green, and blueand a minimum of 3 exposures one through each color filter to capture a color image. Holy crap to those images haha. I've now used this system now for 10 years and still see nothing limbo out there for what I do. The Sony chips have pretty bad wells though which require them to have low readout noise. I would be happy with 2min with my current mount. CCD Cameras use a small, rectangular chip of silicon called a Charge-Coupled Device to gather and sincere incoming light instead of film. I had a sbig 2000xm and with its dual chip was able to to get 15min subs.
